Hazelnut oil pressed on site, at the mill, for a spread that's 100% made in Nièvre!
Our advice: buy a 100% made in Nièvre spread made in this mill and taste the freshly pressed hazelnut oil!
Here, the expression "you enter it as if in a mill" has its place. At the Huilerie du Moulin de l'île in Donzy, the stone millstone has been activated for more than 150 years by the river Nohain, to produce high quality artisanal oils. As soon as you walk through the door, the smell of crushed nuts under the millstone comes up to your nose, to immerse you in the atmosphere. Mr. Coudray, the owner, explains to us how the Donzy stone millstone works, activated by a hydraulic turbine installed on the Nohain.
After being crushed for 30 minutes under the millstone, the "paste" of the walnuts or hazelnuts is then heated and pressed to reveal all its secrets in a smooth and tasty oil. And then, only one idea crosses your mind, taste this precious nectar. Hum, what a delight! So, if you don't know this place yet, all you have to do is visit it and learn everything about oil production! The mill can be visited throughout the week according to opening hours and sometimes at weekends for events.
