The town is at the heart of both appellations. In the surrounding villages, hamlets and town centre, you can meet the winemakers who make our famous Pouilly Fumé.
For centuries, Pouilly-sur-Loire was a town of bargemen. On the quaysides, you can admire their houses, recognisable by the anchors engraved on the door lintels. Today, at the heart of the Val de Loire nature reserve, the river offers visitors a landscape of islands and sandbanks, a haven for many species.
At the end of the quays, you can reach the start of two footpaths leading into the Val de Loire nature reserve
For many years, Pouilly-sur-Loire was the first port of call for holidaymakers on their way to France. Just 200 kilometres from Paris, you'll find a former Shell service station from the turn of the century, which was converted into a truck stop at the end of the Second World War. A veritable open-air museum, the Relais des 200 bornes displays vintage petrol pumps and old advertisements at the end of a spectacular avenue of plane trees on the outskirts of Pouilly-sur-Loire.
Try it now with its praline cream wrapped in two layers of nougatine... The cobblestones of the Route Bleue will melt your heart.
From Neuvy-sur-Loire to the famous Nevers-Magny-Cours circuit, old advertisements, milestones and roadside signs invite you to take a trip back in time. Every two years, classic car enthusiasts gather in Pougues-les-Eaux for the ‘Faites de la Nationale 7’.
